Cataracts

If caught early, the prognosis is generally very good and most infections can be treated. However, if the infection is caught later there may be permanent scarring and loss of vision.

Visual development

Babies are born with very crude vision. Over the course of the first few years, their vision is stimulated to develop. It is extremely important that any babies with risk factors for reduced vision have their vision checked regularly to ensure appropriate development.

Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon

Miss Jain is Consultant and Oculoplastic surgeon at The Western Eye Hospital (Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust) and Hillingdon and Mount Vernon NHS Trusts.

Miss Jain graduated from Guys and St Thomas' Hospital Cambridge and specialist ophthalmology training at Moorfields Eye Hospital London. She undertook several subspecialist fellowships at Moorfields Eye hospital and in the Cranio-facial-palpebral unit at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon

Mr Duguid is Consultant Advisor in Ophthalmology to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and holds regular clinics at their headquarters. He is also a Designated Aviation Ophthalmologist to the Civil Aviation and Safety Authority of Australia (CASA) and sits on the Vision Panel for the Department of Transport.

He specialises in medical and surgical diseases of the retina, cataracts, and ocular trauma; experienced in medical management of glaucoma and general ophthalmic conditions. Medical retinal disease includes diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular occlusions, sickle cell retinopathy, and myopic maculopathy.
